Amy Winehouse was found dead at her London home today. The singer reportedly died of a drug
overdose.
The Metropolitan police confirmed the news saying they had received a call from a woman asking for
help in Camden. The paramedics apparently reached the spot a little too late as the Grammy award
winning artist was already dead.
Winehouse, who shot to fame with her debut album 'Frank' in 2003 has always had a troubled life.
The singer had been battling drugs and alcohol addiction since a long time. The 'Rehab' hitmaker underwent treatment for her addiction several times with her jumping in and out of rehabilitation centres.
The singer was 27 years old and had recently suffered a breakdown on-stage during her European tour. After the incident that took place last month, the singer cancelled her entire tour. Friends of Winehouse had voiced fears that she was drinking herself to death as she was out of control most of the times.
Her resorting to alcohol and drugs were the result of the spate of problems she was dealing with in her personal life. Her relationship with on-off boyfriend Blake Fielder Civil was constantly in the news owing to the insane amount of drama that it created. Winehouse had once even said that “the whole marriage was based on doing drugs".
She married Fielder in the year 2007 which only led to more and more controversies. They were spotted, bloodied and bruised, in the streets of London showing how violent and unstable their relationship was. The pair divorced in 2009 following which Winehouse became a tabloid regular due to her numerous health and substance related problems.
The brilliant singer joins the list of numerous Hollywood celebs that have fallen prey to drugs. Previously, artistes like Michael Jackson, Anna Nicole Smith and Heath Ledger also died due to an overdose of drugs.
