How to e-filing:
Register with a tax-filing portal and fill up the Income Tax Return (ITR)-1 form, meant for salaried persons. The list of portals offering this service is posted in the ERI (e-return intermediaries) section of incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.
After filling the ITR-1 form, the website will prompt the user to review the ITR-1 form. Once the review is done, users can submit for e-file. Websites offer users an option to submit ITR-1 form by using a digital signature.
Users will have to pay additionally, between Rs. 400 to Rs. 500, for a digital signature or else they can just submit the ITR-1 form without a digital signature. Once the form, without a digital signature, is submitted, users will get the ITR-1 acknowledgement from the Income Tax department in their mails.
Users will then have to print the ITR-1 form in black, sign it with a blue pen and post (ordinary or speed post only) to the Centralised Processing Centre at Bengaluru. After a few days, the IT department will acknowledge the receipt of the ITR-1 form through mail. Your returns have been filed. Read more in: The Hindu.
